Helpful Tips When Planning Your Trip to Yosemite
When planning your trip to Yosemite National Park, remember these important tips to ensure that your trip is a memorable one for all the right reasons.
Check the weather before you go. Check the weather a few days before you leave so you can be sure to pack the right kind of clothing and to adjust any reservations as necessary, then be sure to check the weather again the day before you leave. The last thing you want is for an unexpected change in weather to leave you unprepared.
Talk to friends and family who have visited Yosemite National Park recently to get the best recommendations for what to do and where to go. A vast array of websites will make all sorts of suggestions as to what will make your visit to Yosemite Park perfect, but your friends and family are sure to also have recommendations that are tailored to you and your specific tastes.
Plan ahead as to what you would like to do once you get to Yosemite Park. Your plans will certainly shift once you get to the park and discover trailheads you didn’t know about and sights you didn’t realize would be so beautiful, but be sure to make appropriate Yosemite reservations and allot time for the things you want to do most, such as white water rafting, taking a guided tour or fishing. When determining what hiking, camping, cooking, fishing, etc. gear you’ll need to bring, be sure to check out your local sporting goods stores for lightly used equipment and for opportunities to rent. If this is a once in a lifetime trip, renting may be the way to go. On the other hand, if Yosemite National Park feels like a second home to you, consider investing in high quality equipment that will last you trip after trip.
If you’re bringing the family… Consider a bus tour through the park. Guided tours are a great way to start Yosemite vacations because they expose you to areas and aspects of the park that you might not otherwise get to see. A number of Yosemite bus tours are offered through the National Park Service, including the Valley Floor Tour, a two-hour tour of Yosemite Valley; the Glacier Point Tour which lasts four hours; and the Tuolumne Meadows Tour, an all day excursion. If you already know a little bit about the park, you can also opt to take yourself on a tour in your very own car. Yosemite maps are easy to navigate and are readily available.
If you’re planning an outdoor adventure… Remember to acquire the necessary permits and reserve the appropriate Yosemite vacation rentals to make your adventure is safe and legal. A permit is now required to climb Half Dome, and fishing licenses are required to fish in Frog Creek, Lake Eleanor, or the Tuolumne River. Many of the fishing and/or climbing supplies you’ll need can be purchased or rented at the park, but permits and licenses should be obtained well before your trip to Yosemite National Park in order to ensure that you’ll be able to do exactly what you’d like.
If you’re planning a Yosemite vacation for yourself and a loved one… Why not plan a romantic hike? Pick a trail that won’t be too difficult for either of you (huffing, puffing and sweating profusely isn’t exactly ideal when you’re trying to set a romantic mood). Bring along a picnic lunch and take in the wild beauty of Yosemite with the one you love.
