When visiting Yosemite National Park in the winter, there is no end to the possibilities for fun and entertainment. Winter offers an array of activities that cannot be enjoyed at any other time of year in Yosemite. During the winter, you can head to Badger Pass Ski Area for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and more. From Badger Pass, you can also cross-country ski to Glacier Point. From this amazing lookout, you'll have an extraordinary view of Yosemite Valley in winter, encompassing everything from snow-topped Half Dome and El Capitan to the frost-covered Mariposa Grove. Another great Yosemite activity that simply can't be missed during the winter is the Curry Village Ice Rink. The rink is a permit fixture of Curry Village, a small community nestled at the foot of Glacier Point. The Curry Village Ice Rink typically opens up around Thanksgiving and stays open throughout the winter. The Curry Village Ice Rink has been in operation since 1928. In its first year, the ice rink was no more than a flooded parking lot. Since its humble beginnings, the ice rink has developed into a permanent feature of Curry Village. From the rink skaters have a view of Glacier Point, Half Dome, and other sites within Yosemite Valley.  At the Curry Village Ice Rink, adults and children alike can enjoy the simple pleasure of ice skating. The rink offers multiple sessions throughout the day as well as ice skate rentals for anyone who needs them. The rink also features cubbies for shoes and possessions, a warming hut, and a great supply of hot drinks and snacks. Next to the rink, there is even an area with a cheerful fire pit for people who would like to watch the skaters and socialize. The ice rink operates in sessions. If you would like to skate at the Curry Village Ice Rink, you can enjoy their 3:30 to 6 p.m. or 7 to 9:30 p.m. sessions any day of the week. On weekends the rink also offers an 8:30 to 11 a.m. session and a noon to 2:30 p.m. session. Regardless of what time you come, the fees for each session are $8 for adults and $6 for children. There is a $3 skate rental fee per session. The rink also makes helmets available at no additional cost. The rink is subject to weather conditions and may cancel sessions if the weather does not permit. If you're planning a trip to Yosemite National Park this winter, be sure to visit the Curry Village Ice Rink. Also make sure to reserve your Yosemite accommodations as early as possible.
